Goalkeeper Danilo Fernandez, 37 years old, announced last Tuesday night (02), in a club audio broadcast, that he will retire at the end of this year, 2025, after the Brazilian Championship matches against Sport and Fluminense.

Danilo commented on his decision to leave the field wearing a Bahian club shirt. According to him, it is a “new fear,” but everything has already been decided.

“I don’t think there has ever been a more perfect scenario than this. A more beautiful opportunity than this. It was supposed to be like this, it was supposed to be the last shirt I wear as a professional athlete in my life. There are things that cannot be explained, words are missing to understand this moment, to say beautiful things, I can’t. But it was worth it, it was really wonderful. I enjoy these days as if I were a boy. It’s the fear of something new, but I’m really afraid,” commented the goalkeeper.

He added, “I feel good, but football is here (scoring points) and I cannot continue. I do not want to lie to myself. I do not want to lie to another club. My career was not like that. I was able to understand the moment. At a high level, it is difficult for me. I cannot, in football terms, steal.”

Danilo also commented on the potential career shift and commented on working as a manager at Bahia. At first, he didn’t have any concrete plans about it, but he said it would be a great opportunity.

“I’ve had some conversations with Cado, and we’re talking more seriously about it. And with the possibility of continuing at the club, I’ll be happy and satisfied that I’m able to continue at the club that I love today, at the club that I have a great affection for and I also have a ridiculous affection for the club, for the city. So, that goes without saying. As I said, my family is now very stable and happy here. So, if I have this opportunity, it could be a soft transition, a nice transition, I want to be a soft transition, I want to be nice,” he explained. And well, no, I want to have a role, and have goals to achieve, goals for sure.”

The goalkeeper has been in the Bahian squad since 2021. This season, he has played on eight occasions. In total, there are 64 matches, the season with the most matches played in 2022.
