Sao Paulo and Internacional face each other on Wednesday (03), in Vila Belmiro, at 8pm (Brasilia time), in the 37th round of the Brazilian Championship.
The two teams reach a similar situation. Tricolor Paulista came out of a crushing defeat against Fluminense 6-0, and a victory over Juventude 2-1. Internacional has not achieved a win since last October, losing 5-1 to Vasco in its last match.
Even playing at Villa Belmiro, São Paulo want to win this match, try to consolidate their place in the table and win the long-awaited place in the Libertadores. Furthermore, in their last encounter against Internacional, Tricolor Paulista won 2-1, so a win will be important to maintain their streak.
For the match, coach Hernan Crespo is having problems with missing athletes. Sao Paulo have 13 players injured and four at risk of suspension, meaning the team has few options at the start.
Internacional, coming off a series of defeats and draws, needs to win over Sao Paulo if it wants to stay in the Italian League next season. With 41 points, the club is in 16th place in the Brazilian League and is in danger of relegation. Defeat would strengthen their position in the penultimate round and could mean their relegation.
The two teams begin their journey in the final stage of the Brazilian Championship to strengthen their position in next year’s season.
