Point guard Chris Paul was unexpectedly released by the Los Angeles Clippers, just one month after announcing his retirement from the NBA.
The franchise’s president of operations, Lawrence Frank, spoke to the international press and confirmed that the veteran is no longer part of the team’s plans:
“We have parted ways with Chris and he will no longer be with the team. We will work with him on the next step in his career. Chris is a legendary Clipper with a storied career. I want to make one thing absolutely clear: No one blames Chris for our poor performance. I accept responsibility for the record we have now. There are many reasons why we struggled. We are grateful for the impact Chris has had on the franchise.”
The shipowner also spoke on social media and revealed that he was surprised by the decision:
“I just found out I was sent home.”He wrote during the early hours of Wednesday (03).
Oh nah they did Chris Paul so dirty. Being unemployed and on the retirement tour he doesn’t deserve this guy. https://t.co/xlOmd1ERs9 pic.twitter.com/DR5bOTdLiU

Chris Paul had one of the most memorable stretches of his career with the Clippers, between 2011 and 2017, when he won two Pacific Division titles and led three playoff series. The player returned to the team in June of last year to play his 21st season in the American Professional Basketball League.
This season, the Los Angeles Clippers are in second-to-last place in the Western Conference with five wins and 16 losses.
