Jury blasts Brazilian Christmas dish on Romanian programme

The traditional Brazilian Christmas dinner salbacao has sparked surprise and criticism on the cooking show Chefi la Cuîte, shown in Romania. Influencer Solenn Carey, who lives in the UK, presented the dish to the show’s judges, who are known to bring together chefs who evaluate recipes prepared by different guests.

The reaction was immediate: the chefs were amazed by the combination of ingredients, especially the presence of straw potatoes. The recipe, which typically includes shredded chicken, mayonnaise and carrots, has attracted attention for its appearance.

“As long as you live in Chefi la cuîte, you will always be surprised. And that’s what I like, because we’re always surprised,” commented one of the judges.

Straw potatoes have remained the target of bizarreness, prompting one chef to harshly criticize the preparation process. “This is someone who has no idea about cooking. Zero,” he said. At another point, when it was thought that this dish could be prepared by a professional chef, the idea was immediately rejected: “If it is a chef, I will make the sign of the cross. God help us.”

Solin reported that the judges refused to prosecute the Salpicao. “I brought Brazilian salpicao, which is a national tradition, and the chefs looked as if I had served a flying saucer,” he said. “They didn’t taste it. They didn’t taste my sausage at all.”

Chef Stefan Popescu admitted that he was hesitant to try the dish and did not try it until he was subjected to pressure from his colleagues. And he said, “Look, I’ll try it, because, you know, out of respect, I’ll take a little.” Orlando Zaharia was the only one who showed his admiration for power, although he was criticized by other rulers.
