The passenger in Douglas Alves da Silva’s car, who was arrested for running over and dragging a woman along Marginal Teite, north of São Paulo, told civil police on Saturday (29/11) that the suspect turned around and went around the Teite River before throwing the car at the victim. The passenger’s hearing contradicts the version given by Douglas.
The victim’s legs were amputated and he was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
The witness, identified as Kawan Silva Bezerra, said in his statement that Douglas had been in a recent relationship with the victim, Taynara Souza Santos. According to him, the couple separated for a short time.

On the day of the murder, Cowan and Douglas went to a bar, where they found Taynara talking to another boy. At that moment, according to the suspect’s friend, Douglas became “angry” and argued with the woman and the man who accompanied her.
During the fight, Cowan allegedly asked his friend to leave and the two got into Douglas’ car, a black Golf.
However, instead of leaving, the suspect took a U-turn, went around the river, and “out of nowhere” began accelerating and threw the car in Tainara’s direction.
No reaction time
Cowan told police he did not have time to react to his friend being stopped. Furthermore, he said Douglas had intentionally pulled the car’s brakes and was “squeezing” — which, he said, would be an attempt to kill Tainara.
The witness claims he tried to prevent the accident, but the friend was “upset.”
While Douglas was dragging Taynara along the fringe, Cowan reported that he became desperate and made the man stop the car. The driver did not stop the car until the witness argued with him and shouted at him.
Coming out of the black golf, Cowan says he felt hopeless, and couldn’t believe what had happened. He left the scene, but later cooperated with the investigation by providing information about Douglas and the accident.

Arrest the suspect
Douglas Alves da Silva was arrested after running over and dragging his ex-lover in Marginal Tete, north of São Paulo, and claims he was the victim of possible assault and torture at the hands of police officers at the time of his arrest.
According to the police report, Douglas attempted to grab a gun from a police officer as he approached, and ended up being shot in his left arm. He was reportedly taken to the Vila Alpina Municipal Hospital, where he received emergency medical care before being transferred to the police station.

The lawyers also claim that the man “has not yet been treated, nor has he received a single painkiller pill, despite presenting at the hearing with a gunshot wound, and even bleeding on the floor of the hearing room, a fact attested to by all.”
On Monday (12/1), Judge Guilherme Eduardo Martins Kellner requested that these allegations be investigated by the Internal Affairs of the Civil Police.

In the confusion, Douglas was allegedly hit in the face with a bottle and threatened to be killed. He said he left the scene with his friend, and already in the car, he saw Tainara with the other boy. Douglas said he suspected the alleged mechanical problem when he noticed that “the car was not moving forward” after the crash, but he denied noticing the victim was under the car. He said that people started gesticulating, but he quickly left the place towards Marginal Titi. On the street, other drivers were honking their horns and warning that there was a woman under the car. According to the man, he stopped at a gas station a few meters in front of him, and then Tainara freed himself from the car, but fled for fear of being attacked.
The police deny the version

Who is the victim?
Described by family and friends as a cheerful, smiling woman with a “good person,” she is a mother of two children, a 12-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl, who lives alone.

“She enjoys everything she can in this life,” Letizia revealed.
Taynara was working in production for an e-commerce agency. “She was doing her little things, and was planning several things, but unfortunately this tragedy happened. She is a very good girl, but what happened to her will stay with her for the rest of her life,” the friend lamented.

Family members, friends and attorneys for Taynara Souza Santos say they will fight for justice for the victim.
The defence, represented by Fabio Costa and Wilson Zaska, posted on social media that the case “will never go unpunished” and that “justice will be done.”
