Del Pozo asks Urtasun to absorb all the characters in the centenary of Generation 27

The Minister of Culture and Sports, Patricia del Pozo, asked Minister Ernest Urtasun at the plenary session of the Sectoral Cultural Conference held on Wednesday at the Reina Sofía National Arts Center in Madrid, to give space to everyone. Personalities, experts and institutions related to the Silver Age in the official program for the centenary of the 27th generation, “which was characterized by deep bonds of friendship among its members.”

Del Pozo stated that “the atmosphere of renewal of the Generation of 1927 resonated throughout Spain and, therefore, its centenary must be an occasion to develop a program that brings everyone together. He did not explain that the National Commission was presented in June without autonomous communities such as Andalusia or institutions such as the Provincial Council of Malaga, on which the Cultural Center of the Generation of 27 depends.”

In this sense, the Minister of Culture reminded Minister Urtasun that the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Generation 27 would be distorted, for example, without Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, the famous bullfighter, playwright and lecturer, who became friends with the members of the group, hosting them at the gala in honor of Luis de Góngora held in Seville on December 16 and 17, 1927, the time of the emergence of the famous Generations photography.

In his speech at the plenary session of the Sectoral Culture Congress, del Pozo called for “the bullfighting in the centenary celebration to be given the relevant role that it played in the 27 generation, the bullfighting as a whole, to the point that many of its authors were big fans of the festival and devoted entire books or poems to some of the figures of that moment, such as Joselito or Ignacio Sánchez Mejías himself.”

Del Pozo said, “Bullfighting and the world of bullfighting is, today as yesterday, one of the basic elements of culture and art in Andalusia and Spain, as confirmed by the authors of the Silver Age,” recalling that “the Ministry of Culture and Sports is working to include in its programming a specific line of work that highlights the links between bullfighting and the culture of the 27.”

It once again requests the Ministry to declare the centenary of the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929 as an event of exceptional public interest (AEIP)

Designating the centenary of the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929 as an event of exceptional public interest (AEIP), which would allow entities collaborating in the event in question to submit A series of tax benefits It makes it easier for organizers to publicize and promote activities, and the Ministry of Culture has welcomed the announcement, which plans to request this announcement in other celebrations held on the same date.

Uncertainty due to lack of budgets

Finally, the Minister of Culture expressed her “deep concern” about the situation The imminent end of European funds for the period 2021-2027Through which important cultural programs are funded, in addition to the lack of state budgets for the year 2026. In his opinion, both scenarios could cause a state of uncertainty, as they will directly affect the cultural fabric and employment in the creative sectors.
