A new phase of the judicial process in Argentina, which removed 22 more pirated streaming apps used on TV boxes and IPTV last Sunday (30/11), has left these platforms – used in “gatonet” and popular among TV users in Brazil – offline and more than 2 million subscribers without a signal.
The first phase of the operation in Argentina stopped more than 30 pirated streaming services that were operating in several countries, including Brazil. This measure, which took effect on November 1, affected applications popular among Brazilian users, such as My Family Cinema, TV Express and Epi Cinema.
Three days before the operation, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) reported that it had implemented, in cooperation with other countries, the eighth phase of Operation 404, in Brazil, an operation aimed at combating crimes against intellectual property on the Internet, which led to the blocking and suspension of about 535 illegal live streaming websites and applications.

According to the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), the procedure began in September, following a court decision submitted by the Alliance Against Audiovisual Piracy (Alianza). The Brazilian agency explained that it did not participate directly in the operation, but was monitoring developments in the operation, which also affected countries such as Mexico and South Africa.
The suspended platforms were used to supply illegal set-top boxes and TV boxes, known as “gatonet”, which allow access to movies, series and paid channels without authorization. The sudden outage caused a reaction among system users.
