Images from a security camera show the moment the bar slips from Ronald’s hands during a bench press and hits his chest. He got up after the impact but fell seconds later. RW Academia staff provided first treatment and transported him to Rio Doce UPA, but he succumbed to his injuries. Civil police are treating the case as an accidental death.
In a post on social media, Palácio dos Bonecos highlighted that it had lost “a leader, friend and passionate advocate of popular culture”, responsible for helping to preserve the tradition of giant puppets, one of the symbols of Pernambuco’s Carnival. The entity reported that it had suspended its activities until December 5, to mourn the death of its president.

The company announced its solidarity with the family and made itself available to provide support to the family during the mourning period.
The academy published: “The entire team provided immediate assistance, and specialized assistance was immediately activated. Despite all efforts made, we received the news of his death with great regret.”
Ronald, a father of two and a well-known figure in the Olinda cultural circle, was seen as one of the main organizers of the maintenance and modernization of the traditional giant puppets, an attraction that highlights the city in Brazil and beyond. The burial is scheduled to take place on Wednesday (3), at the Morada da Paz Cemetery, in Paulista, Greater Recife.
