What will happen in La Plata?

The Automobile Tramway Association (UTA) has confirmed that there will be strong action at AMBA on Friday 5 December if companies do not deposit their full salaries this Thursday. For now, the outlook is towards conflict: business chambers insist that the government has not sent the necessary relief and assert that there is no room for timely compliance.

The problem worsened again two weeks ago, when companies announced that they would not be able to pay the salary and half of the December bonus except in installments. Given this scenario, the union warned that if full salary is not transferred on the fourth Thursday, services will be stopped the following day.

As the days passed, nothing changed. “The company that doesn’t pay, the group that doesn’t leave,” they reiterated from UTA.

The union also clarified that the action will not be a traditional strike, but rather “abstention from tasks while being present in the workplace.” This means that if companies deposit payrolls sometime on Friday, services could return to normal immediately.

The conflict is developing in parallel with the recent price increases: 9.7% on the national lines on November 17 and 14% as of Monday, December 1 on AMBA’s Buenos Aires lines.

Regarding the local situation, sources from UTA’s La Plata division indicated that the city has drivers who have already received their full salaries, so this measure may not affect La Plata service.
However, the final definition will only be known on Thursday.
