With the launch of the Tremembé series, the name Andreas von Richthofen has once again attracted attention on social media. Susan’s brother was just 15 when she and her then-boyfriend and brother-in-law killed her parents in 2002 in one of the country’s most high-profile crimes.
After the case, Andreas became a target of national curiosity, but he chose to stay out of the spotlight entirely. He devoted himself to his studies, graduating in Pharmacy and Biochemistry from the University of São Paulo (USP) and obtaining his PhD in Organic Chemistry in 2015. Despite his training, he preferred to maintain a conservative routine and stay away from academia.

Andreas, the sole heir to an estate worth around R$10 million, returned to the headlines in 2017, when he was arrested after breaking into a house in the southern district of São Paulo during a psychotic episode. The incident led to his admission to the psychiatric ward and revealed the young man’s relationship with drug abuse.

Since then, he has lived in isolation on a farm he inherited from his parents, in São Roque, inside São Paulo. According to Ulysses Campbell, author of Tremembé, the place has no internet or cell phone signal, which enhances the isolation. Neighbors rarely see Andreas.

Even with the inheritance, he faces debts related to real estate and even the maintenance of his parents’ grave. In 2024, the total number of pending cases reached approximately R$500,000 in São Paulo courts.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Andreas sold part of his property and acquired a plot of land in the same area, where he lives a peaceful and reserved life. In an interview with Tá na Hora, on SBT, in April 2024, he stated that he does not maintain contact with his sister and has never forgiven Suzanne or the Kravenhuis brothers.
