Thursday’s weather (4) in a large part of the country will be affected by the Zakas phenomenon (South Atlantic Convergence Zone), a system that usually appears between the end of spring and summer and is characterized by the formation of a corridor of moisture (and dense clouds) from the Amazon to the southeastern region.
Since the southeast is already under the influence of a cold front, the combination of the two weather phenomena prompted Inmet (National Meteorological Institute) to issue two alerts: an orange warning, of storm danger, valid for the entire Zacas region, and a red one, of high risk, for rainfall volumes in eastern Minas Gerais and the state of Espírito Santo.
According to the National Authority, this area is expected to witness rainfall of more than 60 mm per hour or more than 100 mm per day, creating the risk of major floods, overflowing rivers and major landslides in cities located in such vulnerable areas.
In the orange warning zone, rainfall is expected to range between 30 mm and 60 mm per hour or 50 and 100 mm per day, strong winds of 60 to 100 km per hour, and hail, with the risk of power outages, crop damage, fallen trees and flooding.
In this second part is the state of São Paulo, where moderate to heavy rain is expected on the coast and east of São Paulo, with the risk of storms occurring in the north and northeast of the state.
According to the Climate Emergency Management Center of the São Paulo City Council, Thursday starts with lots of clouds and drizzle in the capital and greater São Paulo. There is a chance of light rain early in the morning and the sun will appear between the clouds throughout the day. In the afternoon, Enmet says there are suitable conditions for isolated showers.
The clouds and winds blowing from the sea cause temperatures to be moderate for this time of year, with a minimum reaching 17 degrees Celsius in the early morning and a maximum of 25 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.
The Climatempo website indicates that the weather remains unstable in the north, coast and east of São Paulo, with moderate to strong rains and thunderstorms, in addition to the risk of storms in these areas. In the south of the state, rainfall is weaker, while the interior tends to have harsher weather.
In other areas affected by Hurricane Zcas, Climatempo predicts moderate to strong rains in north-central Goiás, the Federal District and much of Mato Grosso, with a risk of storm surge. Heat and humidity exacerbated instability in northern Mato Grosso do Sul from early on. Until tonight, rain is expected to decrease in Mato Grosso do Sul and be concentrated in northern Mato Grosso and Goiás. Temperatures are high in almost the entire region, with the exception of Brasilia, where they remain milder.
