The Colombian advantage in canceling the Messias session

Lula’s allies estimate that Senate President, Davi Alcolombre (Uniao-AP), also gained an advantage by canceling the hearing of Minister Jorge Messias, who was nominated by the Workers’ Party member for STF membership.

On Tuesday (12/2), Alcombre announced the cancellation of the session under the pretext that the government had not sent the official message to the Senate nominating Mesías.

Until then, the hearing was scheduled for Wednesday (10/12). But the Senate President did not announce a new date for the event, which effectively puts the question on hold for 2026.

The assessment of government supporters is that just as Messias will have more months to collect support, Alcolombre will have the government longer to collect compensation.

One of the possible demands of the Senate President and his allied senators is the possibility of appointing new positions or obtaining leadership of state-owned companies in different Brazilian states.

These government supporters believe that senators should take advantage of the cancellation of the session to present their demands to the ministers in the Palacio do Planalto or directly to President Lula.

As reported in the column, Lula personally entered the square to assist Mesías and began receiving the senators. On Monday (1/12), for example, he received Otto Alencar (PSD-BA).
