There are two ways to criticize this film: as a horror film or as an adaptation of a video game, and it is much better in this second plan than in the first. The reason is that in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Some game dynamics are reproduced and more animatronics appear in different versions, again from Henson Factory, which delivers spectacular work.
Yes in 2023 Five Nights at Freddy’s Surprised by accumulating a very juicy box office, it was because the public endorsed it wholeheartedly, despite having greatly reduced the doses of violence to adapt to a target youth. This “problem” was not so much a problem for Blumhouse, which was thus able to expand the reach of the target audience, allowing minors to sneak into theaters to see a long-awaited adaptation.
Although a similar tone is inherited in this sequence, on this occasion there is some (little, but more) violence and also some very well placed jumpscares with their corresponding explosion of audio to make everyone jump in their seats whether they want to or not.
FNAF keeps playing and I’ll be close to you, brunette
A year after what we saw in the first film, Mike and Abby are trying to turn the page, but they are going through very difficult times. He told his sister that the animatronics are broken and that he will fix them in the future, while continuing to try to help Vanessa get rid of her father’s memories.
Meanwhile, the city has turned the events into a cause for celebration, with FazBear Fest about to take to the streets for an entire weekend.
What they don’t know is the tragic story of the first pizzeria that closed after a terrible murder that went unpunished. When some hunters of paranormal phenomena arrive there to record a new episode of their television series, they unwittingly release a powerful and evil entity that has a clear objective: revenge.
If you’re expecting the film to really chill your blood, chances are it will. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 I disappointed you. It tries to be shocking, it gives good sudden scares, but it won’t give you nightmares or make you look under the bed.
It will arouse the sympathy of those who liked the games because in this edition, yes, The film plays with claustrophobia, with countdowns and the same dynamics that we know from video games such as camouflage maneuvers of the protagonist.
But the best, by far, is the quality of the work of the artisan artists who worked to put the animatronics into operation in their different versions: toy, deflated or removable. Be careful, some of those that were designed to be distracting elements, without offensive capabilities, are also visible. There is also a subtext that the old can overcome the new, which is curious to say the least, in a film that defends the retro feel that has made so many successful productions before. Stranger Things for the head.
Other than that, Scott Cawthon’s own script is a little desperate because the only thing he seems sure of is that he wants to leave the plot open for a third film. The relationships between the characters are confusing (especially that of Mike and Vanessa who go from meeting to collaborating and then becoming suspicious), a new rabbit is pulled out of the hat at the end of the plot, just like in the previous film and leaves a suspense planted in the last moments in addition to adding a post-credits scene that tries to create even more expectation.
Is it a great movie? No, seriously, but it compensates for some previous deficiencies by increasing the dose of blood and leaving it intelligently out of the scene so as not to have to take on too many responsibilities and not fall into the arms of the rampant CGI that weighs down other contemporary productions (slap on the wrist for This: Welcome to DerryFor example).
Here there is more care with tangible details, more desire to satisfy fans and above all more skill and analogy that are very welcome. The increase in budget is noticeable and the land is well fertilized for a quick return. In the meantime, open a Fazbear Cola and don’t play with puppets.
Assessment
Observation 60
The script is a bit chaotic (again), but the animatronics are a real joy in the sequel. Five Nights at Freddy’s which suffers a little for being a “connection episode” between the first and the most likely third chapter of the saga.
The best
The film will give the audience what they expect: good jumpscares, reproduction of game dynamics and lots of scary animatronics.
Worse
While the budget looks great on screen, it lacks clearer action and character development. It’s not really scary other than the specific jump scares.
