The Chinese government called for “effective implementation of the ceasefire in Gaza” after five people, including two children and two women, were killed in the Israeli attack last night, which targeted a camp for displaced people in Khan Yunis, south of the Strip.

The Kuwaiti field hospital located in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Yunis said in a statement that Palestinian ambulances recovered five bodies, including two children aged 8 and 10, “and a number of wounded after an Israeli bombing.” As for the other victims, their ages are 30, 36, and 46 years old, according to the same source. Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal confirmed to AFP the death toll of five.

Israel talks about revenge; Hamas is a “war crime”

The Israeli army announced the bombing of Israeli forces in response to the attack that targeted its forces in the Rafah area in the southern Palestinian Strip, in which five Israeli soldiers were injured.

According to Gaza Civil Defense, a relief agency operating under Hamas authority, Israel “attacked the tents of displaced persons with several missiles” in the Palestinian territories, where a fragile truce with the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas came into effect nearly two months ago.

The truce entered into force on October 10, more than two years after the start of the war sparked by the Hamas attack on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023. The two warring parties are exchanging accusations of violating it.

For Hamas, which Israel, the United States, the European Union and other countries consider a terrorist organization, this Israeli attack “constitutes a clear war crime” and “neglect of the ceasefire agreement.”

100 million Chinese to rebuild Gaza

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian expressed in a press conference his regret that “the situation in Gaza is still fragile.” He stressed the importance of implementing a ceasefire “to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and restore regional peace and stability as quickly as possible.”

Since the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in 2023, China has expressed “dismay” at Israeli attacks against the civilian population in Gaza, and reiterated its support for a “two-state” solution.

In this context, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced on Thursday, after his meeting in Beijing with French President Emmanuel Macron, that the two countries will work together to move towards a “complete, just and lasting solution” in the Middle East, and announced $100 million in aid for the reconstruction of Gaza.
