Italy announces “New Farnesina” with focus on companies abroad

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will have a new structure in 2026

Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, on Thursday(4) presented a broad reform of the portfolio, a project he described several times as “the real solution.”

“As of January 1, there will be another Farnesina (as the ministry is known in the country). There will certainly be a political president, but also an economic president,” Tajani explained at an event in Rome.

Since taking office in October 2022, the Chancellor has championed so-called “growth diplomacy”, through measures to encourage the expansion of Italian companies’ activities abroad.

He stressed, “The goal is for the two heads of the ministry to focus in a coordinated way on politics and the economy, because the world has changed, and we cannot have an effective organization to accompany our companies in the world.”

According to Tajani, all Italian embassies in the world will serve as “platforms to support” every Belpaese company operating beyond national borders, so that “no entrepreneur, whether small, large or medium, will feel alone.”

The minister also said that Farnesina would create an administration aimed at combating “cyberattacks” so that the administration would not become a “victim of hybrid warfare.” He announced, “We will have an organizational structure capable of preventing attacks on our websites and embassies, to protect the sensitive data we have.” .
