At Portonhall, Maduro asks Brazil to support Venezuela’s sovereignty

Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro has made a public call for Brazilians to take to the streets in defense of the “peace and sovereignty” of the neighboring country, which is under pressure from the United States. This came during his participation today, Thursday (4/12), in a program on the TeleSUR channel.

Speaking in “portunhol” – Portuguese phrases interspersed in Spanish – Maduro thanked the Movement of Landless Rural Workers (MST) for the hat sent to the Miraflores Palace. According to him, this gesture will represent solidarity between social movements in the two countries.

“Thank you very much, Brazil, thank you very much, MST. Victory is ours. Long live the unity of the people of Brazil, long live unity with the Venezuelan people. People of Brazil, take to the streets to support Venezuela in its struggle for peace and sovereignty. I tell you the whole truth: we have the right to peace with sovereignty. Long live Brazil,” he said.

These speeches came practically at the same time that the US military announced a new attack against a boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean, under the pretext of combating drug trafficking.

United States of America x Venezuela

In recent months, Washington has expanded its military operations near the Venezuelan coast. According to data released by the United States, at least 23 ships “suspected of being involved in drug trafficking” were attacked in the Caribbean and Pacific.

The US government claims the measures target gangs sending drugs into the country. However, Maduro criticizes the attack and says that his government is the real target of these operations.

The United States accuses the Venezuelan president of heading the Los Soles cartel, an organization recently designated by US authorities as an international terrorist group. Caracas denies all accusations.
