Heavy rains that hit the federal district on Thursday (12/4) caused damage and disruption in several parts of the city.
Due to the intensity of the rain, a leak was identified in the roof of Brasilia International Airport and the boarding entrance had to be temporarily changed.
The structure collapsed, causing floods and flooding in the concourse, scaring passengers and employees.
In addition, three flights coming from Vitoria, Porto Alegre and Florianópolis, scheduled to land at Brasilia station, were diverted to Goiânia. Two flights were cancelled, one coming from Salvador and the other heading to the capital, Bahia.

In the video, residents show their astonishment at the amount of water in the street that was recently paved. Buses and minivans pass by. “Brave,” says one local resident.
An audit report by the Brasilia Environmental Institute (EBRAM) indicates that the work progressed without installing a stormwater drainage system, an essential structure to prevent exactly this type of flooding.
In addition to the floods, the Military Fire Department of the Defense Forces was also called to collapse incidents and the danger of collapse in different parts of São Sebastião.
According to the army, a landslide occurred on 11th Street in the São Francisco neighborhood, resulting in the partial collapse of a wall and part of a residence after heavy rains.
There was also a risk of collapse in Condomínio Ouro Vermelho 2, due to a wall collapse that caused cracks in a neighboring house.
The risk of collapse in the Residencial do Bosque area, after identifying cracks and erosion in the ground.
Houses flooded with water
Videos show damage caused by rain to structures, houses and streets in Incra 7 and 8 near Brazlandia (DF).
The records are impressive: bathrooms, furniture, food racks, appliances, muddy streets, everything ended up covered in water and mud.
Residents claim that the floods were the result of a dual-road project on the BR-080 road, which connects Taguatinga and Braslandia, where they had to clear all the forests that prevented the water from reaching a high level during the rainy seasons.
Furthermore, one witness said that all the waste generated by the process, such as earth, cement and sand, ends up in the Discoberto Dam, a system that supplies water to the entire federal district. That’s why the streets are muddy and the flooding continues.
Rain over the next few days
The federal district has been placed on orange alert for the risk of heavy rain. Weather warning in effect through Friday (5/12). There is also a risk of power outages, falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharge.
The weather forecast for DF calls for unstable conditions to continue over the next few days. According to meteorologist Danilo Cabral, the movement of the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (ZCAS) over DF and Goiás maintains the scenario of dense clouds and frequent rains – a typical phenomenon at this time of the year.
According to the expert, Friday and Saturday are supposed to continue with the same closed weather pattern, with cloudy days and periods of rain, especially in the late afternoon and evening. On Sunday (8/12), the amount of precipitation tends to decrease as instability continues.
Temperatures remain moderate during the rainy season. Minimum temperatures range between 17°C and 18°C, while maximum temperatures range between 25°C and 26°C. Humidity should be between 65% and 95%.
