The United Kingdom announces an attack on a ship off the coast of Yemen

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Center reported on Friday that an attack had been recorded on a ship sailing about 15 nautical miles (about 24 kilometers) off the coast of Yemen.

The organization indicated in a statement that “information was received about an incident that was monitored west of the Yemeni coast.” The text read: “The ship reported sighting fifteen ships, some at a distance of one or two cables (less than one kilometre).”

He added, “There was an exchange of fire. The ship is still on high alert and it is confirmed that the crew is safe and in good health. The ships left the area shortly after and the ship is now heading to the nearest port.”

He also explained that the authorities are investigating the situation. “Vessels are asked to sail with caution and report any suspicious activity to the UKMTO,” he noted.
