Prince Albert II of Monaco received this Christmas from Elena Collel, wife of Luis Enrique, the current coach of Paris Saint-Germain. I pay tribute to the Fundación
This foundation was created in 2023 after the death in August 2019 of Luis Enrique’s youngest daughter, Xana, who died of osteosarcoma (a cancer that affects the cells that form bones) at the age of 9 years. “Our mission is to provide comprehensive assistance and support to their families to children and young people with oncological diseases and other serious diseases,” on its website. Its purpose is also to “work with commitment, precision and sensitivity to assist families experiencing the impact of a child’s illness.”
“Being welcomed to the Principesco Palace is a great honor for our family and for the Zana Foundation,” said Collel, who was accompanied at the reception by his sister Bella, the current director of the Foundation. “This recognition through the Socrates Award reflects our conviction that football can bring light and hope even more across the field.”
The Socrates Prize was created in 2022 by a group L’Equipe and Peace and Sport, and its main objective is to honor footballers (both men and women) and their associated organizations that demonstrate a strong social and humanitarian commitment on the field. For Peace and Sport founder and president, former Olympic medalist Joel Pozo, the attendance at Albert II Palace is specifically to “raise the visibility” of his organization for the benefit of society.
