STF ministers are angry with Christ and see betrayal – 05/12/2025 – Billboard

In talks on Thursday (4), the ministers of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) adopted a tone of indignation when commenting on the statement presented by the Attorney General’s Office, led by Jorge Messias, which asked Gilmar Méndez to reconsider his decision that helps protect members of the court from initiating impeachment proceedings.

Gilmard also rejected CAF’s claims on Thursday.

For interlocutors, ministers close to Gilmar assessed Messias’ position as a betrayal against who was his main coordinator among the magistrates in the search for a vacancy.

Now, they say, President Lula’s chosen one will have more difficulty getting support for his candidacy in the Senate, where there are parliamentarians very close to the judges.

In these conversations, the ministers stated that, in their assessments, Messias attempted to exploit the friction between the Senate and Gilmar to gain support from senators in his campaign to obtain approval for his nomination.

However, he ignored the pressure this would cause for the minister, who was working doggedly to overcome the resistance of colleagues such as Alexandre de Moraes and Flavio Dino to his name.

Moraes supported Senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), who was also the favorite candidate of the Senate President, Davi Alcolombre (União Brasil). Dino in turn fell out with Mesías when they were part of the Workers’ Party government.

The chronology of the operation was also highlighted in talks by ministers, who highlighted that Gilmar had requested a statement from the AGU on the operation on 30 September and a response had only been given now, in the midst of Mesías’ campaign for a place in the STF.

Gilmard stated in his decision that only the head of the PGR (Public Prosecutor’s Office), currently in charge of Paulo Jeunet, can file a complaint to initiate impeachment proceedings against Supreme Court judges.

The reaction in the Senate was immediate. In a memorandum, Senate President Alclumbre demanded respect for the court and spoke of changing the constitution to defend the powers of the Senate if necessary.

In the statement, which was rejected by Gilmar, the African Union demanded that the effects of the decision be suspended until the final ruling is issued by the plenary session of the Specialized Technical Committee.
