It’s official: Netflix has just announced that it has acquired Warner Bros.agreement that will bring the cinema giant’s content to the streaming platform.
After days of negotiations, today we report that Netflix won the bidding war to buy Warner, something that didn’t go down very well with Paramount.
However, this does not seem to worry the “Tudum” platform, as it has just announced the purchase of Warner Bros., following the separation from Discovery, worth 82.7 billion dollars.
This is a historic agreement within the audiovisual sector, as Warner has to its credit a large number of successful franchises that will add to the Netflix catalog.
Netflix buys Warner Bros. with HBO: films and series that will now be part of the platform
The Big Bang Theory, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, the Wizard of Oz, the DC universe, Casablanca, Harry Potter, Friends or Citizen Kane are just some of the HBO films and series that will be part of Netflixas they point out in their official statement.
“This announcement combines two of the world’s best storytelling companies to bring the entertainment they love to even more people.“, said David Zaslav, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros.. “By partnering with Netflix, we’re ensuring everyone can continue to enjoy our stories for generations to come.“.
The agreement came after several days of intense negotiations, where there was no shortage of accusations of unfair bidding and even threats of blocking under antitrust law. We’ll have to keep an eye out to see if Paramount finally decides to take legal action.
The million dollar question is: Netflix and Warner Bros. Are they compatible? Will the Red N platform get its hands on it and distort the cinema giant’s content?
For now we can only wait and see, but it’s clear that this is a movement that will affect the entertainment industry for years to come.
