US President Donald Trump is clear about who shares his extremist agenda. He wants to strengthen alliances with them, whether on the American or European continent. Thus, in a 33-page document on the National Security Strategy, he celebrates “with great optimism” the “increasing influence of European national parties.” This means pushing Giorgia Meloni, Viktor Orbán and extremist leaders who are doing well in other countries in northern and central Europe such as Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands and Germany.
According to Trump, Europe’s “economic decline” is “overshadowed by the real and stark possibility of the disappearance of civilization. Among the most serious problems facing Europe are the activities of the European Union and other transnational organizations that undermine political freedom and sovereignty, immigration policies that transform the continent and create conflict, the censorship of free speech and the suppression of political dissent, the sharp decline in the birth rate and the loss of national identity and self-confidence.”
“If current trends continue,” Trump says, “the continent will be unrecognizable in twenty years or less. Therefore, it is not at all clear that some European countries will have economies and militaries strong enough to remain reliable allies. Many of these countries are currently redoubling their efforts on the current path. We want Europe to remain European, to regain its civilizational confidence, and to abandon its failed approach of regulatory bottleneck.”
In this sense, he asserts: “American diplomacy must continue to defend authentic democracy, freedom of expression, and the frank celebration of the individual personality and history of European nations. The United States encourages its political allies in Europe to promote a revival of the spirit, and the growing influence of European national parties is undoubtedly a reason for great optimism.”
Trump says: “As a result of Russia’s war in Ukraine, European relations with Russia have deteriorated severely, and many Europeans view Russia as an existential threat. Managing European relations with Russia will require significant diplomatic engagement by the United States, to restore conditions of strategic stability throughout the Eurasian continent and mitigate the risks of conflict between Russia and European countries. It is imperative that the United States negotiate a rapid cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, in order to stabilize the European economies and avoid an involuntary conflict.” Escalate or expand the war and restore strategic stability with Russia, as well as allow Ukraine to be reconstructed after hostilities so that it can remain a viable state.
Trump acknowledges that he is at odds with European leaders “who have unrealistic expectations about war, and are trapped in unstable minority governments, many of which trample on basic principles of democracy to suppress dissent. There is a large European majority that wants peace, but that desire does not translate into policy, largely because of subversion of democratic processes by those governments. This is strategically important for the United States precisely because European countries are unable to reform if they are trapped in a political crisis.”
Thus, he affirms his support for “the Allies in preserving Europe’s freedom and security, while restoring the self-confidence of European civilization and Western identity. We reject the catastrophic ideologies of “climate change” and “net zero,” which have severely harmed Europe, threaten the United States and provide financial support to our adversaries.
Back to the Monroe Doctrine
“Our goals for the Western Hemisphere (i.e. Latin America) can be summarized as ‘recruitment and expansion,’” the document states in a clear strategy reminiscent of moments in history when the United States wanted to interfere in the politics of Latin American countries, to the point of encouraging coups, dictatorships, and civil wars.
The document continues: “We will enlist established friends in the hemisphere to control migration, stem the flow of drugs, and promote stability and security on land and at sea. We will expand by cultivating and strengthening new alliances, while enhancing our nation’s attractiveness as the hemisphere’s economic and security partner of choice.”
