The new episode of This: Welcome to Derry was unable to prevent fans from overlooking the obvious similarities to Stranger Thingsthe hit Netflix series.
We already have the new episode of This: Welcome to Derrythe series which serves as a prequel to the film’s remake Andy Muschietti Based on Stephen King’s best-selling horror novel.
Set 27 years before the Losers Club faced Pennywisethe series covers several plots starring the inhabitants of Derry as they deal with the new cycle of the creature known as It.
The central axis is in a group of young people who discover the existence of the entity in the worst possible way while trying to locate their missing friend.
Because of this, many fans couldn’t help but compare This: Welcome to Derry with Stranger Thingsthe hit Netflix series whose plot also focuses on a group of pre-teens. There have already been comparisons about this in Andy Muschietti’s remake, especially in the first film, for addressing the children’s part of the Losers Club.

In the new episode of This: Welcome to Derry We see how Lilly is reluctant to tell the authorities what she actually witnessed at the movies when Death killed three of her friends, with Hank Grogan, Ronnie’s father, being accused of the murders, which makes her friend angry with her.
However, Lilly convinces Ronnie that the only way to make them believe her story is to accept photographic evidence and thus prove to everyone that what they saw was real.
They decide to tell Rich and Will what happened and, although they are not entirely convinced, in the end they join them to help them obtain proof of the entity’s existence, going to the Derry cemetery in the middle of the night to perform a ritual that, according to Rich, would summon the spirits.
Although it doesn’t seem to work, Eso eventually appears, showing the group the spirits of their deceased friends. resulting in a bike chase that shows a similar essence to that seen in Stranger Things.
Not only that, but as the group was chased by the ghosts, the ground in the cemetery began to shake and crack.
The cracks seemed to reveal the red glow of hell, which It looked strangely like something from the Upside Down. Stranger Things.
Furthermore, many of Pennywise’s attacks are usually hallucinations caused by fear, and interestingly, the main villain of the Stranger ThingsVecna also has powers that involve projecting hallucinations.
That’s why there were many who compared This: Welcome to Derry with Stranger Thingsand we’ll likely continue to see similarities throughout the season.
