Castro: Fighting crime has no borders and no one can stop it policy

the Governor of Rio Claudio Castro (PL)He stated on Friday that Combating criminal organizations It has no limits, “no lock”. This came during the governor’s questioning about the infiltration of organized crime into state agencies after that Arrest of the President of the Rio Legislative Assembly (Alerg), Rodrigo Bacellar (Uniao). Basilar has been in prison since Wednesday, on suspicion of informing former State Rep. Thiego Santos, T.H. Goyas, that he will be arrested in September for his involvement with the Vermelho commando.

“We have to fight all kinds of criminals, regardless of where they are,” he told reporters after participating in the South-South-East Integration Union governors’ meeting in Rio. He continued: “If he is in society, in the richest areas of the city, if he is in parliament, in the judiciary or on our side, in the executive branch itself, then anyone with links to organized crime must be fought.”

Castro stressed that investigations must follow due process and criticized the “exaggeration” of police actions. He stressed that “this battle against organized crime has no limits, of course, neither in the police, nor in politics, nor in administration, nor in any field of work.”

He participated in a press conference alongside the Governor of São Paulo, Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans); From Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSD); And from Minas Gerais, Romeo Zema (Novo).

Federal Representatives Guilherme Diret (PP), rapporteur of PL Antifaction in the Chamber, and Dr. Luisinho (Progressistas) also participated. Earlier, upon arriving at the event, the Rio governor avoided commenting on Allerg’s analysis of Basilar’s arrest. Next week, parliamentarians must analyze whether to maintain or cancel the arrest of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. “I am not a representative,” he said in a harsh tone.

Castro and Basilar were allies in the past, and the governor even indicated that the Allerg president would be his candidate to succeed Guanabara Palace in the 2026 elections. The two broke up in July, when Basilar took over as head of government on an interim basis and fired then-Transportation Secretary Washington Reyes without Castro’s prior approval. This incident was the culmination of a series of harsh criticism exchanged between the MP and the governor.

The Rio governor also called “nonsense” questions regarding the dismissal of then Sports Minister Rafael Picciani (MDB) to resume his mandate in Allerge after the arrest of MP TH Goias (MDB) in September.

T. H. Goias was Picciani’s deputy and held a seat in the Parliament of Rio de Janeiro until then. This maneuver was cited in the PF investigation that led to Basilar’s arrest.

According to the institution, “the state governor and the Allerg leadership promoted a rapid regimental maneuver” to suppress the arrest of T.E. Goias and carried out “damage control with the aim of separating the image of Allerg from the person being investigated, who, as was known to the public, was a political ally and a regular presence at institutional events of the executive and legislative branches.”

“It’s nonsense and rhetoric from those who want to implicate the state government in something it has nothing to do with,” Castro responded. The governor stated that the minister’s dismissal was already planned and was driven by the need to resume economic agendas that had been postponed, and not because of police operations. According to him, clarifications have already been sent to the STF.
