Madrid, December 5 (European Press) –
Congressman Flavio Bolsonaro confirmed today, Friday, that he will be a candidate in the Brazilian elections in 2026, as his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, promised him, the same week in which his differences with his stepmother, Michelle Bolsonaro, regarding electoral strategy emerged.
“I have confirmed with great responsibility the decision of Brazil’s greatest political and moral leader, Jair Messias Bolsonaro, to entrust me with the task of ensuring the continuity of our national project,” Flavio announced, putting an end to the uncertainty about who will be responsible for continuing the former president’s political project.
“I will not sit idly by and watch as the hope of families fades away and our democracy collapses,” he said in a message on his account
Bolsonaro’s eldest son said: “Our country is going through difficult days, where many feel abandoned, the government itself is robbing pensioners, drug terrorists dominate the cities and exploit workers, state companies have been plundered again, new taxes are constantly being imposed or increased, and our children have no future prospects.”
“I put myself before God and before Brazil to accomplish this mission,” Flavio said. “I know that he will go ahead of us, open doors for us, tear down walls, and guide us every step of this journey.”
The maneuver completely restructures the political council of the Brazilian right, where, after this week’s show of power, Michelle Bolsonaro should now aspire to a position in the Senate.
The former First Lady questioned the strategy of the Liberal Party coalition in Ceara ahead of local elections that will also be held in 2026, much to the dismay of Bolsonaro’s children, including Flavio who later ended up backing down and between tears and prayers asking his stepmother for forgiveness.
It remains to be seen whether so far one of the best candidates to lead the right in 2026, the governor of São Paulo, Tarcisio de Freitas, will present his candidacy, a maneuver that seems unlikely because he has a large part of his term ahead of him and because his loyalty to the Bolsonaro clan is known.
