Formula 1: Bortoletto rediscovers the path on which he was Formula 2 champion

The Formula 1 Championship will be held in Abu Dhabi for the final race of 2025, the end of the season that usually brings a farewell atmosphere to the circuit. However, for Gabriel Bortoletto, the Yas Marina Circuit awakens special memories: where he won the Formula 2 title last year.

In 2024, the Brazilian reaches the decisive stage as he has already signed with Sauber for his Formula 1 debut. On the track, he has a direct duel with Isak Hager, now the RB driver and future teammate of Max Verstappen from 2026.

The Formula 2 achievement came after a strong weekend at Yas Marina. Bortoletto started the stage in second place in the classification. In Saturday’s race, he started ninth and showed strong pace and finished second, earning enough points to secure the early title.

Hajjar, his main rival at the time, faced mechanical problems at the start and finished the race in last place, leaving the way open for the Brazilian to consolidate his victory. The victory in that race went to Joshua Doerksen, who won for the first time this season.

In the first free practice session held on Friday (12/4), Bortoletto once again showed his quality on the track. He finished FP1 in seventh place and TL2 in sixth place, reinforcing his quick adaptation to the track where he excelled in the Access category.

This weekend, the program continues in full swing in Abu Dhabi. The third free practice will take place on Saturday (11/6) at 7:30am, qualifying is scheduled for 11am, and the final race of the year will be on Sunday (12/7) at 10am.
