It is possible to advance the date of the University Assembly by about a month if an idea from the university administration is successful, which is to develop it on Saturday, April 11, 2026, as its envoys will tour the deanships of the 17 colleges during these hours.
Although it seems advanced, the plan still has issues to solve. Especially the amendment to the calendar that will be imposed on colleges specifically. This is because in each board of directors the question of electing a new dean must be resolved as soon as the new representatives of the monasteries (voted in last month’s elections) take office on April 1st. This calendar is not reviewed because the outgoing Board members and Dean have a current term until the previous day.
Thus, it is appreciated that the tradition could be broken in UNLP which is considering developing a University Council in which the President is elected as the last electoral process, after voting on the Deans.
The scenario contains another important fact: it is the Governing Council of the 17 faculties that constitute the University Council.
But the university administration is currently looking for a way to tighten the votes in the faculties over a 10-day period so that potential tensions over the distribution of internal power are not dragged into the university council.
For example, in agricultural engineering negotiations are conducted between faculty members who still have the new leadership of the college in the induction area.
The idea of applying for this newspaper was confirmed by the university presidency. As said, the change seeks to bring the association back to April after the experience of 2022. On May 6, Martín López Armengol was voted in as the new president.
It was recalled that this was the case, due to the change imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, with prevention measures, on the monastic election schedule. Therefore, the student vote broke with the November tradition and was postponed until March of that year.
Even if the Council moves forward, the date of the president’s inauguration, scheduled for June 1, will not be modified. The only candidate is current Vice President Fernando Tauber.
