The block where thieves robbed a house / WEB
Mondongo is under tension again. Another criminal incident that occurred in the last few hours has once again exposed the fragility of the historic neighborhood, where residents no longer hide their concern about events that are recurring with an alarming frequency. This time, the target was the home of a health worker, who, after returning from a family trip, found his house in complete disarray and with important loot that the thieves had managed to take without being seen.
The incident occurred at a property located at 64 between 117 and 118, where the owner had left to vacation with his family for a long weekend. The house was closed and empty of residents, as was usual in their absence. But when he returned, the first thing that caught his attention was that the lights were on. He remembered very well that he had left them.
Upon entering, the scene was a preview of the worst: clothes strewn on the floor, torn drawers, belongings thrown into every room, and an immediate feeling of invasion of privacy. The thieves opened a gate leading to the kitchen and connecting to the backyard. From there, according to subsequent analysis, they also attempted to open the front gate, although they were unable to damage it enough to use it as an escape route.
Inside, the chaos revealed the systematic nature of the looting. The criminals took their time: they searched room by room and chose what was most valuable. They took new clothes, including shirts from various clubs – especially Estudiantes – unopened imported perfume and a large amount of jewellery: an engraved wedding ring, a diamond headband, several chains, bracelets, earrings, a gold watch and an emerald ring, among other things kept in a jewelery box.
The looting continued with electronic equipment: a PlayStation 4, a joystick and its original charger, a laptop, a tablet, a 42-inch television, a portable DVD, and a speaker. Also missing were more than 400,000 in cash and a set of professional cards in the name of the homeowner, along with his personal data and medical registration numbers.
One of the details that caught attention was that the back door was left open with the key placed from the inside, which reinforced the hypothesis that the criminals escaped through that sector. One neighbor, whose yard borders the house and other unoccupied property, claimed she heard barking during the early hours of Sunday, though she did not notice any movements or call emergency services. They suspect that this empty house served as an access point or hiding point.
Annoyed neighbors
For neighbors, this issue is not surprising. It’s part of a pattern that runs deep in El Mondongo: silent entrances, home burglaries taking advantage of long weekends or vacations, criminals who act with time and a clear knowledge of the neighborhood’s movements. Concern is growing among the Front’s fighters, who assert that the region has become fertile ground for this type of unrest.
As the investigation progresses, the incident once again puts security under a magnifying glass in one of La Plata’s most traditional neighborhoods, where residents insist a feeling of helplessness has already become a daily part of their lives.
In this sense, the blow to the family did not merely mean the loss of objects of emotional and economic value: it revived a climate of anxiety that seemed to deepen with each new event, far from dissipating.
