PL Threatens CPI Support on Master and BRB – 12/06/2025 – Board

The signature of Federal Representative Pia Cases (PL-DF) in favor of the creation of the CPI in the National Congress on the sale of Banco Master to BRB has raised alarm in Brasilia about a split in the base of Governor Ibanes Rocha (MDB).

Provincial MPs from the Workers’ Party, the Socialist Party and the Socialist Party of Socialists have collected 7 of the 8 signatures required to open the CPI in the legislative chamber of the Federal District, where 17 of the 24 parliamentarians are part of the Ibanes base.

Pia Kekes is Head of PL at DF. Her position began to fuel hope in the opposition that the party, which includes three representatives from the region, would be able to give the eighth and final signature.

The allies claim that the MP was questioned about the pro-CPI stance proposed in the House of Representatives. She replied that the signature reflected her thoughts on the subject, in a kind of carte blanche to other party members in Brasilia.

Bia is on a collision course with Ibanes over the 2026 elections. The two are vying for the Liberal Party’s support for the second seat in the Senate, in a rivalry with former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro (PL), who has been named the preferred candidate for the first seat.

The Master-BRB case has led to three CPI applications, all with little chance of success. Only one Senate application, submitted by Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE), reached the minimum number of signatures, 34.

Proposed by MP and former governor Rodrigo Rolemberg (PSB), the House of Representatives received 118 signatures – at least 171 signatures are needed. The number of members of the Legislative Council is 7 – with a minimum requirement of 8.
