
During her security conference, Prime Minister Clara Brugada confirmed that the line that runs from Pantitlan to Observatorio will reopen its last three stations that were under renovation: Juanacatlán, Tacubaya and Observatorio. He explained: “On Sunday, November 16, at 11:00, we will finally open the Mexico City Metro line, the first line leading to the Observatorio.”
Brugada had already announced details of the reopening weeks ago. When he toured the construction with President Claudia Sheinbaum. The president described the Observatory station as the most important station built in the country, and the only one of its kind, as it will connect the metro to other transportation systems, such as the Interurban train that runs from Toluca, the capital of the neighboring state of Mexico.
Brugada stressed that this is the most important modernization made to the metro in its entire history. “Very soon we will have great connectivity between the Greater East of the Capital Region and the West,” he said.
Final works of metro line 1
In order to reopen the Pink Line, 29 high-tech trains were purchased, each with a capacity of 2,000 passengers. The three latest reopened stations – Juanacatlán, Tacubaya and Observatorio – together cover a 3.5-kilometre route. In this section, the installation of fiber optic networks, ventilation, fire-fighting network, sanitation, and surveillance cameras was completed.
The stations open on Line 1 so far are: Pantitlán, Zaragoza, Gómez Farías, Boulevard Puerto Aéreo, Balbuena, Moctezuma, San Lázaro, Candelaria, Merced, Pino Suárez, Isabel La Católica, Salto Del Agua, Balderas, Cuauhtémoc, Insurgentes, Sevilla, Chapultepec.
“Al-Bab Al-Jadid” observatory station, west of the capital
Brugada highlighted that the observatory complex, with an area of about 15,000 square metres, has become “the great gateway to the west of the city” because 10 distinct transport routes meet there, and it will connect with the intercity train “El Insurgente” and soon with line 12 of the metro. Thus, the flow of users at the observatory will increase to 150,000 passengers per day.

Intercity train The rebel It will be ready in 2026
President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that at the end of January 2026, it will be possible to use an intercity train from Toluca, State of Mexico, to Observatorio, in Mexico City. The rebelAs is known, it will be operated with 20 trains to be able to transport 140,000 passengers daily.
It is estimated that with the full reopening of Metro Line 1 and the connection of the station to the train, residents will reduce their travel time from two and a half hours to 40 minutes. Likewise, the cost of the trip is expected to be lower, ranging from 15 to 90 pesos depending on the route to be travelled, in contrast to the 112 pesos it currently costs to travel this section by bus.
This transportation system will undergo a trial period during the next three months before being connected to the Observatory Station on Metro Line 1.
