After many waits and discussions about the successor to Jair Bolsonaro, imprisoned and ineligible, the former president made his choice: Flávio Bolsonaro, one of his sons. Federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro defended the movement on his social networks this Saturday 6, saying that it was a “checkmate of the system” and an act of courage. “Flávio represents exactly everything Bolsonaro represents,” he said.
For Eduardo Bolsonaro, it was courageous that his father did not name “possible candidates when the system that put him in prison threatened and blackmailed him into doing so.” And he chose Flávio to “continue the movement” and “bring hope to Brazilians”.
“This is a great message for all those who think that Bolsonaro lacks courage. Flávio Bolsonaro represents exactly everything that Bolsonaro represents. So much so that these same people, who do not like Jair Bolsonaro, are now attacking Flávio Bolsonaro”, added the MP.
Eduardo continues to say that “there is no other way out.” “Any possible change in this electoral office means a victory for all those who, with the left, think that the future belongs to censorship, to political prison. Without freedom, there is no hope of anything else,” he believes.
The pre-candidacy of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro for the presidency was confirmed by him on Friday 5. In a text published on social networks, Flávio said that the decision came from former president Jair Bolsonaro and that he would accept the “mission”. The next meeting between Flávio and his father after the decision on his candidacy is scheduled for December 9 and has been authorized by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
Before the official announcement, Flávio reportedly sought the leadership of the Liberal Party to resolve the issue, as well as that of São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), who was also identified as a possible successor to Jair.
Former President Jair Bolsonaro is imprisoned at the Federal Police Superintendency of Brasilia and lost his political rights after beginning his 27 years and 3 months in prison. Even before that, he was already considered ineligible due to a previous decision by the Higher Electoral Tribunal (TSE).
