José Guimarães rejects the possibility mentioned by Flávio Bolsonaro of approving a project on the subject this year
BRASÍLIA — The leader of the government in the Chamber of Deputies, José Guimarães (PT-CE), refuted the statement from Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), who said he would work to approve amnesty for those arrested on January 8 of this year, and said there was no “political environment” in Brazil for this vote.
Furthermore, analyzes Guimarães, the approval of the amnesty could have a reverse effect, as was the case with the vote on the draft amendment to the Constitution (PEC) of Blindagem, and increase the popularity of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
“There is no political environment in Brazil. If they do this, Lula will win five points. It’s even good from the electoral point of view, but not from the democratic point of view. It’s not good for the country, for democracy, for the Supreme Court, but for Lula he only wins,” he reflected.
Guimarães believes that there is also a tight deadline, of only two weeks, which would prevent an articulation of this type, especially since the government insists on passing the bill of the persistent debtor – on which Guimarães says he hopes that the Chamber will return this Tuesday 9 – and the project of creation of the Committee for the management of the tax on goods and services. These proposals are considered top priorities by the government.
Earlier this Saturday, the 6th, Flávio Bolsonaro, chosen by his father as a pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, defined the approval of the amnesty in the National Congress as one of the priorities. He said he intended to work to approve the proposal late this year and asked party leaders for help.
“The first gesture that I ask of all political leaders who say they are anti-Lula is to approve the amnesty this year. I hope not to be radical by asking for amnesty for innocent people. We only have two weeks, let’s unite the right,” he declared.
The amnesty project is pending in the Chamber of Deputies and is blocked due to the rejection of the Bolsonaristas and the presidential government. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
THE rapporteur of the proposal, MP Paulinho da Força (Solidariedade-SP) announced that its text would focus on “dosimetry” and not on a “broad, general and unrestricted” pardon, as Bolsonaro and his sons wanted.
Paulinho continues to negotiate with Bolsonaro’s leaders, who are now increasingly willing to accept a partial reduction in sentences.
