
A major from the National Army’s Cross-Border Threat Command (Conat) was arrested around noon on Saturday, December 6, by members of Venezuela’s Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) at a border point near Cúcuta.
According to preliminary information from military sources cited by The time, The events occurred nearby Simon Bolivar Bridge, a well-traveled section of the Colombia-Venezuelan border.
The military sources consulted by the above-mentioned media stated that the officer, identified as Miguel Acosta, was recently deployed to the border town for operational purposes.
During the day on Saturday, Acosta went with his family to the border area where he was supposed to have been intercepted by Venezuelan uniformed officers attempting to cross the border, after using the Waze application, which would have taken him on a different route than usual.
A source quoted by the media explained: “Apparently the official went to dinner with his wife and children and activated Waze, but the request gave him a different address and took him to a different point. There, apparently, Venezuelan uniformed officers were holding him. They are trying to achieve his return without having to activate the diplomatic mechanisms.”
