The Formula 1 season enters its final chapter this weekend in Abu Dhabi, with three drivers still in contention for the world title: Lando Norris, Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri.
The setting is historic. If McLaren wins, it will be the first time the British team has lifted the trophy with Norris or Piastri. If the champion is Verstappen, the Red Bull driver will achieve the greatest comeback in the history of the category and match Michael Schumacher’s feat of five consecutive titles.
The decision promises excitement until the last round. Check below the conditions that every driver must meet to leave Abu Dhabi as a world champion:
Lando Norris
If you finish in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, there are no restrictions: you will be champion regardless of the positions of Verstappen and Piastri.
If he finishes 4th or 5th, Verstappen must be at most 2nd; Piastri’s position does not interfere.
If they finish 6th or 7th, neither Verstappen nor Piastri will be able to reach 2nd place.
If he finishes 8th, Verstappen must be 3rd or worse and Piastri 2nd or worse.
If he finishes 9th, Verstappen must be 4th or worse and Piastri 2nd or worse.
If he finishes 10th, Verstappen must be 4th or worse and Piastri 2nd or worse.
If he doesn’t score, Verstappen must be 5th or worse and Piastri 3rd or worse.
Max Verstappen
If he finishes in 1st place, Norris must be 4th or worse; Piastri’s position doesn’t matter.
If he finishes in 2nd place, Norris must be 8th or worse and Piastri 2nd or worse.
If he finishes in 3rd place, Norris must be 9th or worse and Piastri 2nd or worse.
Oscar Piastri
If he finishes in 1st place, Norris must be 6th or worse; Verstappen’s position does not interfere.
If he finishes 2nd, Norris must be 10th or worse and Verstappen 5th or worse.
