When a friend called him very early in the morning and told him that it was Two puppies abandoned on the side of the road In Greece, Theoklitos Proestakis, also known as Takis, immediately went to the crime scene. Upon arrival, found two small dogs. One of them shocked him: it had the largest paw the rescuer had ever seen..
Takis, head of the Takis animal shelter on the island of Crete, did not hesitate to help the animals. It was still very early and the vet clinics were closed, so he offered the puppies food and water. His fragile state indicated this They had no food or water for several days..

Already at the veterinary office, Takis was able to confirm that both dogs were dehydrated and very thin. They were only two weeks old. One of them had a very severe infection on one of her front legs.. For this reason, the professional who examined her suggested the following: Maybe they would have to amputate that limb..
However, Takis asked if they could give him a little more time to see if his giant paw would heal on its own. Unfortunately, the other dog died that same night. Abandonment had condemned her to death.
Despite immediate care, the paw became the rescuer’s primary concern. However, Zena – as the puppy was named – turned out to be an incredibly brave dog with an unbreakable will.a quality the team noticed as they developed.
As the days went by, the puppy began to eat and drink with more and more enthusiasm.. Slowly but surely he seemed to be healing. And finally, after weeks of fear and worry, Contrary to all medical predictions, Zena’s leg not only improved, but also returned to its normal state.. Thanks to the love and care they had shown her, Zena had gone from being completely vulnerable to being a playful and energetic dog who was happily running around the shelter.
Aside from that, Zena developed a charming and sophisticated personality. She had developed such a good bond with Takis that she didn’t let him relax in bed: every time she saw him lying down, she encouraged him to get up and play. She became a “beautiful lady” who was deeply loved by everyone at the shelter.
More time passed and Zena’s paw became smaller and smaller. Takis was sure he had done the right thing by not choosing the amputation.. Somehow, with his help, Zena was able to overcome her injury. Soon Zena’s leg was completely normal and it was hard to say there had ever been a problem. He ran and played like any other dog.
When Zena was fully healed and old enough, Tekis felt it was the right time to end her story. Although she had become very attached to the brave pup, the 400 animals she cared for let her know that the best thing for Zena was to be adopted by a family that would give her the attention she needed.

And soon she was adopted by a wonderful family and lives in France. I would never have made it without Takis. Instead, he enjoys every minute of his new life.
