‘Heaven’
Conspiracy thriller reaching its second season, Heaven took the stars Sterling K. Brown And Shailene Woodley and the screenwriter Dan Fogelman to comment on the new year. The series, which was also announced to premiere on February 23, will pick up from the end of the first year, with Xavier (Brown) discovering that many have survived the apparent apocalypse that sparked the plot.
“Xavier spent three years isolated (in a bunker), believing the rest of the world was destroyed and there was no one left. Suddenly he goes out into the outside world, sees people have survived and finds Annie,” Brown said, setting his character’s moment in the new year. Although he didn’t reveal any major spoilers for the season, the actor did say that the protagonist will say “I love you” to Woodley’s character, a tour guide at Graceland, Elvis Presley’s mansion in Memphis, Tennessee, who was working when the mysterious cataclysm began destroying the world. “You (the panel) still don’t know what that means. Love can take many forms.”
“You will see how many ways humanity finds to survive, how it has resources and shares them,” the actor continued. “The idea is that instead of the bunker, the outside world trusts a part of you and believes in the goodness of people to survive, because the only way to survive (the end of the world) is to be together. Everyone is afraid of everyone, all the time.”
The trio also revealed Woodley’s first scene in the series, in which the character collects tools, food and weapons from the King of Rock’s house shortly after realizing the world is about to end. The actress, known for The descendants and the franchise Divergentadmitted to being a fan of the first season and of Fogelman, saying the writer’s work made his performance look easy. “Thanks to this brilliant man (Fogelman), it didn’t take much work for me to play Annie. (…) I felt a lot of empathy for her, because she made me ask the question: What would I do if I were Annie? She’s not necessarily someone who was prepared for an event like that, so you see her tapping into the will and resilience of the human heart to survive.”
After working for years with Brown on It’s usalso created by him, Fogelman praised the talent of the actor, in addition to emphasizing that the human issues of Heaven are different from those of his previous success, now being less focused on family relationships. For him, the way the series’ mysteries connect to this questioning of humanity “is the coolest thing we’ve ever done.”
Disney+ catalog expansion includes k-dramas, reality shows and Ryan Murphy series
Derived from The Handmaid’s Tale, The Wills also got a first look. In the new series, set years after the original production, girls raised among Gilead’s elite are confronted for the first time with the idea that the dogmas they’ve followed all their lives may not be exactly the right way to live and work to overthrow the regime that oppresses them.
Starring Ashton Kutcher, Bella Hadid and Evan Peters and created by Ryan Murphy, Beauty will travel through cities like New York, Rome and Venice, exploring a world in which a mysterious virus physically transforms people, adapting them to society’s aesthetic standards, rejuvenating them and restoring their health. Clearly, this virus is starting to be cultivated and marketed by billion dollar corporations as a miracle drug. However, the global marketing of this drug leads to violent and inexplicable events.
After presenting the new productions, it was the turn of Tiago Leifert and Boninho to take the stage to talk about the current season of The voice. The presenter and director talked about the differences in recording the new episodes and showed a preview of the next chapter, broadcast on SBT and Disney+ this Monday 8, which will exclusively feature iconic songs from Disney productions.
First scheduled to premiere on December 24, the K-drama Made in Korea had an exclusive trailer at the panel. The story, set in one of South Korea’s most troubled times, shows how South Korean secret service agents allied themselves with the underworld under the guise of serving their homeland.
National productions highlighted
National success of Disney+, The love of my life opened the block of original Brazilian series on the platform. Bruna Marquezine and Rômulo Estrela took the stage to present the first extract from the second season of the production, in which we see Bia (Marquezine) desperately waiting for a response from Vitor (Sérgio Malheiros), who has gone on a trip to break up with his current girlfriend, Paula.
New to the casting, Estrela will play Zé Henrique, a complicated man who arrives to further disrupt Bia’s love life. In addition to romances, the girl will also face trauma from the past, dealing with the abusive and traumatic relationship with her father, which has shaped her life thus far.
To promote the premiere of the sixth season of Impure, Leandro Firmino, Raphaël Logam And Karize Brum they also revealed some clips featuring their characters, Gilmar, Evandro and Inês. Mixing humor, tension and action, the projected scenes also revealed the beginnings of Bruno Gagliasso like the Playboy drug dealer.
Demigods in the arms of the people
Closing the panel, Walker Scobell, Léa Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri And Charlie Bushnellprotagonists of Percy Jackson and the OlympiansAnd Dan Shotz And Jonathan E. Steinbergshowrunners of the series, went to the Thunder by Claro TV+ stage to applause. On stage, the team revealed what to expect from the second season of the adaptation of Rick Riordan — who even sent a video speaking in Portuguese —, the premiere of which will take place this Wednesday 10.
Executive producer and screenwriter of the production, Steinberg guaranteed that the emotions provoked by the first year will be exacerbated in the second season. “All I can say is that if you liked the first season – and if you didn’t, we wouldn’t be here – you will definitely love the second.”
“This season is epic and just insane,” said Shotz, who also writes scripts and executive produces. “We absolutely loved it. We are completely in love with this group that is here with us. They played very well and I think you will be impressed.
The panel featured several new scenes from the second season, including a sequence in which Percy (Scobell), Annabeth (Jeffries) and Tyson (Daniel Diemer) get into a mystical taxi that takes them to Camp Half-Blood. The moment also features awkward exchanges between Poseidon’s son and Athena’s child, who accidentally have some of their feelings for each other revealed.
“We’re going to see Percy and Annabeth face a lot of challenges together, and I know that’s something you want,” Jeffries teased.
Also highlighted in an exclusive scene, Simhadri’s character Grover meets Percy in a dream, which is possible because of their friendship, which created what the satyr calls an empathetic connection. “It was funny, because it was one of the last scenes we shot of the season,” said the actor who, due to his character’s storyline, spent virtually the entire production period separated from his co-stars. “When we did that scene, there was a real reconnection (with Scobell). (…) When they finally get together (after so much time apart), the moment becomes much more powerful.”
Demigod who betrayed the protagonists during the first season, Luke returns even more evil in the second year of Percy Jackson and the Olympiansweakening the shield that protects Camp Half-Blood from mystical creatures. For Bushnell, who plays the antagonist, his character returns less divided in the new episodes. “He found a purpose (alongside the Titan Cronos).”
“What’s cool about the series is that, unlike the books, it brings other points of view (in addition to Percy’s), so we understand a little more the motivation of the characters and what made them the way they are,” continued the actor, who classified Luke not as a bad guy, but as a “misunderstood” boy.
The highlight of the panel, however, was the presentation of the iconic chariot race scene. Big in the books, the moment, which puts Annabeth in direct competition with Percy and Tyson, was left out of the 2010s film adaptations. According to Steinberg and Shotz, the sequence was one of the most complicated to film, as it involved a lot of rehearsals, horses and the construction of an actual race track. Taking the response from the CCXP audience as a basis, it’s easy to see that the effort was worth it.
