Inter Miami won its first championship title by defeating Vancouver/X
Inter Miami defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps of Canada 3-1 to become champions of Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, with several Argentinians in the game.
With this result, Inter Miami become MLS champions for the first time in their short history. Their previous titles were the Supporters Shield in 2024 and the Leagues Cup in 2023.
For Argentine star Lionel Messi, this means the 46th title of his successful career. At league level, this is the thirteenth win on his record.
In the 9th minute of the game, the Argentine Tadeo Allende scored in a counterattack from the left and looked for a pass to the far post for his teammate, but the Colombian Edier Ocampo intercepted it, with the misfortune that it bounced off him and ended up in the goal of the Japanese Takaoka, making it 1-0 for Miami.
Already in stoppage time, after 15 minutes, the Vancouver Whitecaps would decide the game in a draw. At the penalty spot, striker Brian White received the ball with his back to the goal and touched it to the right, giving a single pass to Ali Ahmed, who bit the inside of his right foot into the near post of Argentine goalkeeper Rocco Ríos Novo, who touched the ball but ultimately went into the goal.
But after 26 minutes, Argentine Rodrigo De Paul gave Inter Miami the lead again.
On his own field, the Argentine midfielder Paraguayan Andrés Cubas lost the ball with his compatriot Lionel Messi. The Rosario star fired a pass into the hole to go one-on-one with his Argentina national team teammate, who defined a cross against the rescued Japanese Yohei Takaoka and made it 2-1.
Lionel Messi won the 46th title of his career, both at national team and club level.
In the 49th minute, after a long shot, Messi stopped the ball with his chest a few steps from the center circle in the opponent’s field and threw it over the defender in front of him, leaving Argentine Tadeo Allende one on one with Japanese goalkeeper Takaoka.
The former Godoy Cruz de Mendoza player took on Takaoka alone and ended up under the Japanese’s legs, securing Inter Miami’s first league title.
