A market that has become the most important in Madrid
In this way, Arganzuela once again devotes almost all of its economic forces to bring the Legazpi market back to life after more than three decades of inactivity and with several failed rehabilitation projects. Once completed, it promises to become a large civic-administrative complex, municipal offices, a library, premises for local use with urban roof gardens and different services of the Madrid administration. Such as an auditorium and an underground car park.
Although it is a comprehensive intervention, the project fully respects the concrete structure of the building, as it is a protected element, and the rest of the finishes will be carried out following the advice of the Heritage Commission and the aesthetics of the building itself and its surroundings. Until 2024, the workers focused on correcting the pathologies of the property to ensure its structure. But now, They are already working to undertake global transformation of what was the most important market in Madrid in the 20th century. According to municipal forecasts, the construction site should be completed at the beginning of 2027, but a partial opening is expected in the second half of 2026, with the first workers being able to move in in spring 2020.27.
