He immediately suggested doing something similar in Buenos Aires, and it will finally take place this Sunday at 5 p.m. on the famous corner of Santa Fe and Coronel Díaz, where the building where the musician lives is located. The name? Charly Garcia corner.
“Actually,” says Cabrera, “I wanted to open it last year for the 40th anniversary of the Piano Bar album, but I didn’t achieve what I wanted and it took me a little longer. The corner itself was obviously already there and the fans knew it, but it was some kind of undocumented historical place, whereas now it will be official.”
According to the Alma Mater itself, this project is more ambitious than its New York counterpart as it will have three cornerstones:
The iconic corner of Coronel Diaz and Avenida Santa Fe It will be the main highlight of the tribute, with the official unveiling of a commemorative plaque, installations at pedestrian crossings, graphics and signage by the Buenos Aires City Government, making official a place that is already part of the cultural and emotional heritage of all fans.
“It will be a memorial plaque -Account- on the door of the 1905 Coronel Díaz building, the street sign on the corner itself and two pedestrian crossings in the form of piano keys, more a photographic intervention at kiosks and bus stops, with huge prints of photos by Gabriel Rocca”.
Starting this Sunday The Bulnes metro station on line D receives the common name Esquina Charly Garcíaand after its inauguration, a complete visual transformation process will begin.

Charly Garcia Corner is coming
“It will be inaugurated under this name and in the coming days some interventions will be added,” explains Cabrera.
It will also be inaugurated an official mural the Charly García Corner, which will be located on the terrace of Palermo Off at Arenales 3339 (corner of Coronel Díaz), which decades ago was called Paseo del Sol and had a bar called Planeta Jupiter, where Charly was a regular guest and where he gave unforgettable lectures during the record era. “The mural will be 5.50 x 4.50 meters, with an image of Charly based on photos taken by Rocca and made in Venecitas so that they do not deteriorate like a painting,” concludes Mariano.
