“For years, the Europeans have been telling us: ‘We want to attack Russia.'” “Ukraine is more corrupt than Russia”. The Ukrainians spent the aid on weapons “on Bugattis and Ferraris.” America “needs more partners like Qatar and fewer like the European UnionThanks to sanctions, “Russia is creating a huge industrial base”. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “is an idol of the left” and a thief who has “years of theft, bribery and corruption, and will continue to steal.”
These are not the words of Vladimir Putin, but those of the son of the President of the United States, Donald Trump Jr.this Sunday at the Doha Forum, an international conference organized every December by the Emirate of Qatar. At the meeting, Don Jr., as he is colloquially known, said “I don’t know if my father will leave Ukraine. My father is unpredictable”.
Don Jr. does not hold any public office. But that doesn’t mean he has no power within the Trump administration. His situation is similar to that of his brother-in-law, Jared Kushner, who also has no institutional responsibility of any kind. He is just a private citizen, a billionaire thanks, in large part, to an injection from the State of Saudi Arabia into his $2 billion Affinity Partners fund. But that didn’t stop Kushner from being one of the two negotiators of the US peace deal for Ukraine.
Don Jr. is an investor in the 1789 fund, whose companies have received more than 700 million euros in subsidies since his father arrived at the White House, according to the Techcrunch site and the newspaper Financial Times and, as his interviewer in Doha said, he is “a person who played a key role in articulating the Trump administration’s message in the Ukraine peace plan.”
The way Trump Jr. spoke in the first person about the United States in Doha clearly indicates his influence. AND His message is very hard for Ukraine… and for Europe. The son of the head of state and government of the United States began by saying that “I want more partners like Qatar, and less like the European Union”by comparing the attitude of Qatar in the war in Gaza with that of the European Union and the United Kingdom in Ukraine.
In the first of these cases, the emirate, which is home to some of the leaders of the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, for which Israel bombed Doha in September, facilitated negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza. According to Trump, Qatar showed “real leadership” by allowing Hamas leaders to participate in the negotiations. This is a roundabout way of saying that Europe is obstructing peace in Ukraine.
Trump’s eldest son effectively called the EU an aggressor when he said that “for years the Europeans have been telling us, ‘We want to attack Russia,’ but When it comes to paying, let the United States do it“. Europe has provided more aid to Ukraine than the United States. Washington, moreover, does not provide free military aid to kyiv, but sells it to Europe through the PURL program, which Trump himself promoted last summer.
Trump Jr. also sharply attacked remarks made the day before by EU foreign and security policy chief Kaja Kallas at the same forum in Doha. “What is the idea of Europe, which is on the border (with Ukraine), and has much more to play in it? “Well… our plan is to win with the economy,” he said, summarizing Kallas’s words. “And when asked how he was going to do that, he said, ‘We’re going to wait until Russia goes bankrupt.’ Well, that’s not a plan,” Trump said.
In true Trump tradition, he attacked Ukraine with an anecdote out of his sleeve, similar to that of the Haitian immigrants who, they said, ate dogs and cats in Ohio during the 2024 election campaign. “This summer, I went on vacation with my beautiful girlfriend Bettina to Monaco, and 50% of the “supercars” – the “Bugattis”, the “Ferraris” – had plates “I was in Ukraine 20 years ago and it wasn’t a luxury marvel. The rich left (because of the war), they left the peasant class to fight, and the rulers now have no reason to end the war as long as the flow of money continues. The sons of the oligarchs are not fighting and Putin is taking advantage of the war to rebuild his industrial base. “Sanctions have only increased the price of oil.
Trump’s son’s criticisms were all aimed at Ukraine and its president, Volodimir Zelensky, who he said “was much more corrupt than Russia, according to the US government itself.” But then came the war, and like (Zelensky) is one of the great marketing geniuses nowadays, became a godespecially for the LEFT“.
The attacks of the eldest son of the head of state and the American government against Ukraine were rather personal, as when he declared that “it seems that Zelensky can do nothing wrong, after years of theft, years of bribes and corruption, known to everyone in this room.” Don Jr. ended up saying that “Zelensky will not win another election and he will continue to steal.” 1789 founding partner Omeed Malik, who also participated in the debate, took his sympathy so far as to defend the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, something Donald Trump had already done. father during his first term as president.
