“I don’t want my son to spend another Christmas without his father.”
María Alexandra Gómez is the wife of Nahuel Gallo, the Argentine gendarme arrested in Venezuela a year ago and accused by Nicolás Maduro of conspiring against his government. Amid the conflict between the Central American country and the United States, 365 days have passed since his family last had contact with him. He was arrested the next day. “I feel very broken, very frustrated”his wife said and asked his son “Don’t spend Christmas without your father again”.
“The last time I saw Nahuel was on a day like today, the 7th, via video call, when he arrived at Bogotá airport, where he made a stopover and then flew to Cucuta. That was the last time I saw him, he was super nervous and happy, he was about to see his son, me,” Gómez recalled this Sunday morning in dialogue with Radio Mitre.
Gallo has been in prison since December 8, 2024Date he entered Venezuela from Colombia via the Francisco de Paula Santander International Bridge. His goal was to visit his wife, a Venezuelan citizen, and his young son.
Since then, “we have not heard from him, we have not had any communication,” noted Gómez, indicating that the last information she had about her husband came “from a Frenchman who left three weeks ago” from the same detention center where Nahuel is.
He told him: “that he was fine, that he was still strong and wanted this to end, but we don’t know how he is today. “It’s all troubling,” he said.
Nahuel Gallo, the Argentine gendarme arrested in Venezuela on December 8, 2024 while visiting his family. In January, the Venezuelan government released images and videos of Nahuel Gallo walking in a prison uniform outside a detention center. Facing strong international pressure to obtain evidence of the gendarme’s life, Chavismo stated that the published images were dated January 2, 2025, but there were no details or clarifications about where and when they were taken and recorded.
Since then there has been no news, apart from the statements of some former prisoners who were in prison with him and commented on his condition, such as the case of a Peruvian who said at the end of November: “Nahuel said that he had great hope of being released and that they were fighting for him.”

With this in mind, his wife Alexandra thought about it “These days, December 7th and 8th, will be the most difficult” But despite everything: “I stand up for Nahuel because it keeps him going, because I know that I won’t stop fighting for him and that our son is okay.”
winnerNahuel and Alexandra’s son is two years old. According to his mother, he will be three years old in January and asks about his father every now and then. “I tell him that he is working, that he will be there soon, but he obviously feels the absence because he sees his fellow gardeners and asks,” Gómez said.
“I never thought we would make it to December 8th. Now I’m thinking about the 24th and I don’t want my son to have another Christmas as sad as last year.I want him to spend it with his father. It’s painful “I need an end”he expressed.

He tries to go to the Palace of Justice to obtain resources such as Habeas Corpus. But we couldn’t get any contact or response about his actual situation,” Alexandra commented.
