According to Donald Trump Jr., this issue is not a priority for Americans and drug trafficking would be a much bigger problem for the country than “anything” in Ukraine or Russia. The eldest son of the President of the United States, Donald Trump Jr. said on Sunday (12/07) that his father might give up seeking peace in Ukraine because the issue would exhaust Americans.
“The American public has no appetite (for endless wars and continued funding of Ukrainian defense),” the businessman said at the Doha Forum in Qatar. According to him, drug trafficking would constitute “a much clearer and more present threat to the United States than anything happening in Ukraine or Russia.”
Asked if he thought President Trump would abandon Ukraine, Trump Jr. replied: “I think so. The great thing about my dad, and the unique thing, is you don’t know what he’s going to do. He’s unpredictable.”
The statements come as the White House attempts to negotiate a ceasefire with Russia, after the United States initially presented a peace plan favorable to the interests of Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Washington is putting pressure on kyiv to cede part of its territory to Moscow.
The White House chief’s son also said Ukraine is a country “much more corrupt than Russia” and suggested that this and President Volodimir Zelensky’s political ambitions were fueling the continued conflict.
Zelensky is currently under pressure in Ukraine after one of his closest aides, former chief of staff Andriy Yermak, who participated in peace negotiations, was implicated in a corruption scandal.
According to Trump Jr., Zelensky is prolonging the war because he knows he will not win the election after the conflict ends, and has called him “one of the great marketers of all time” and a “borderline deity, especially for the left.”
The businessman also said that European Union sanctions against Russian oil do not work and only increase the price of the product.
Praise of Musk
Trump Jr. was invited to the event in Doha to explain the White House’s investment agenda in defense technology and artificial intelligence. Although he does not hold any government position, he is considered a central figure in the Trumpist MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement.
On the occasion, he also praised billionaire Elon Musk, former White House adviser and CEO of electric car maker Tesla, describing him as a “genius” worthy of protection and the “changing face of free speech, science and technology.”
