A military police officer was arrested early Saturday (6) while trying to leave the community of Palmeira, in the Fonseca neighborhood, Niterói, metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro.
In a statement, the Prime Minister said he seized from the agent a rifle with a deleted (scratched) number, a pistol, rifle magazines, ammunition and a mobile phone.
The car he was in was also seized. Images posted by the company on social media always show cash next to the recovered items.
The arrested police officer is assigned to the 15th BPM (Military Police Battalion), in Duque de Caxias, also in the Rio metropolitan region.
The officer was taken to the 78th DP (Police Station), in Niterói, where he was charged with illegal possession of a weapon. Communities in the municipality like Palmeira are under the control of the criminal faction Comando Vermelho.
According to the Prime Minister, the arrest of the agent took place after the police arrived to check information on drug trafficking in the region.
“The command of the society reiterates that it does not tolerate possible misconduct or the commission of crimes committed by its members, rigorously punishing those involved when the facts are established,” he said.
Also in a statement, civil police said efforts were underway to investigate the incident in Niterói.
“According to the 78th DP (Fonseca), a man was taken to the area arrest center by military police officers. He was accused of carrying a restricted firearm. During the action, a rifle and a pistol were seized,” he said.
