Only the figure of Saint Joseph measures 18.10 meters high

Alongside them are the Three wise menof different heights: Melchior reaches 11 meters on his knees; Gaspar is 15.6 meters tall and Baltasar is slightly taller, 16 years old. They joined the crèche at Christmas 2023.

All the numbers in this Monumental Nativity Scene These are originals by bonfire artist José María García “Pachi”, whose style is based on early 20th century Alicante modernism. The assembly process lasted three days and Baltasar was the first ready, followed by Saint Joseph, the Virgin Mary, Gaspar, Melchior and the baby Jesus.

The Virgin Mary, decorated in tones of blue, white and gold, kneels contemplating her son, who appears lying in a manger in the center of the scene and very wrapped up. Saint Joseph, on the other hand, features an earthy color palette similar to Hebrew clothing.

Made of self-extinguishing expanded polystyrene, a perfect material for working with large volumes but with reduced weight and which, in the event of fire, goes out, each of the structures is covered with a fire-retardant chemical substance that protects them from bad weather, blows and vandalism.

The internal structure is made of iron tubes and is assembled by gas welding, to avoid joint imperfections and longer service life. Everything, according to the expert, is assembled using self-locking screws.

This is largely how Alicante experiences Christmas. On the same Town Hall square, visitors will be able to enjoy the extraordinary lighting and that throughout the city it can be seen in 130 different locations.

Six angels announce the giant birth from Place de la Mairie, and they are also of considerable size. Each of them reaches 9 meters and their creators are also bonfire artists and are distributed throughout the city to mark the path to the giant nativity scene, the “zero kilometer” of Alicante Christmas.

In addition, visitors cannot miss other fundamental enclaves of the city this Christmas such as the plant ornamentation of the facade of the City Hall; THE three giant fir trees located on General Marvá Avenue; or the luminous nativity scene decorated with flowers, installed in the Plaza de Calvo Sotelo.

Also notable are the two most visited crèches from the master craftsmen of the Association of Crèche Creators. The first of them, of a biblical nature, is in the corridor of the Town Hall. The second, called social, is made up of four scenes – two popular and the other biblical. It can be visited in the central square of La Montañeta. They are joined by a third, as part of an initiative of the Major Commission of Brotherhoods and Brotherhoods of Holy Week, located in the El Portalet Palace, in the heart of the old town.
