Petra Costa’s documentary won the prize for best production and best screenplay, in addition to competing for best feature film and best direction.
Apocalypse in the tropicsdocumentary of Petra Costawon the categories of best production And best scenario of International Documentary Awards (IDA) this Saturday 6, in Los Angeles, United States.
The film also competed in the categories of best documentary feature, main of the evening and best direction.
The first was won by Silyan’s Taleby Tamara Kotevska, which depicts a farming family amid the political and economic scenario of North Macedonia. The directing prize was awarded to Brittany Shyne, of Seedswhich addresses the lives of black farmers.
“What pride and honor to receive this award that is not only ours, but that of the entire incredible Apocalypse in Tropics team,” Costa said on his Instagram.
The screenplay award went to Petra Costa, Alessandra Orofino, Nels Bangerter, David Barker, Tina Baz and the production award to Petra and Alessandra.

“Apocalypse in the Tropics” and the Oscar race
It is expected that Apocalypse in the tropics be one of the candidates selected to compete for the Oscar for best documentary feature film in the list which will be published by the Academy on January 22, 2026.
The film addresses the relationship between politics and religion in Brazil and features interviews with figures such as the president. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the pastor Silas Malafaia.
This wouldn’t be Petra Costa’s first appearance at an Oscar. In 2020, his film Democracy in a daze also competed in the same category. At the time, however, the statuette went to American Factory.
