13th place at the end of the Brazilian Championship and the performance of only 41% in the competition were reasons for regret during the press conference given by the coach Dorival Junior at the end of draw 1-1 with Juventude this Sunday, during a match organized at Neo Quimica Arena. Deeply dissatisfied with what the team presented at Nacional, the Corinthians coach admitted his certain disappointment, but he will use his Brazilian Cup to attempt some sort of redemption at the end of the season.
“We didn’t get where we are by chance. We deserved it and we are going to face a team that has great players and a great coach. We respect it, but we also have positive points. We are going to do our best to seek another ranking that has inestimable value,” he said.
Regarding the performance at the Brazilian Championship, the coach admitted that the team played much less than expected in the 38 matches. “We are aware that (the campaign) could have been better. A lot of things were missing throughout the season. There is a feeling of disappointment for what we did not achieve throughout the competition, for what we would not have liked to offer to our fans,” he said.
With 47 points, Corinthians finished the competition one place behind Santos, a rival who had started the round at risk of relegation. In the last four matches, the team suffered two defeats and drew the other two matches. Faced with this lack of positive results, he cautioned the board of the need to make changes.
