“It is with deep sadness and immense regret that we announce the death of Mauri Lima, brother of Chitãozinho and Xororó, in a tragic accident that occurred on Sunday afternoon.”
“The family is grateful for everyone’s affection and understanding in caring for each other in this time of deep pain.”
According to information from the Federal Highway Police (PFR), the accident occurred on the Régis Bittencourt highway (BR-116), at km 373, in the town of Miracatu, in the interior of São Paulo. A second person died in the crash, but has not yet been identified.
“The accident was a rear-end collision between a van and a truck, also involving a car, with a total of three vehicles involved. The van was carrying nine passengers and the driver,” the police note states. The probable cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Mauri had formed a duo with his brother Maurício for 35 years. Previously, they acted as vocal support for Chitãozinho and Xororó. He was married to SBT presenter Andrea Fabyanna. One of his last Instagram posts was a tribute to his wife.
