The president of the PP, Ciro Nogueira, goes to Paraná this Monday with a defined mission: to remove Sergio Moro from the race for state government and announce that the União Brasil-PP federation will follow the project of Ratinho Júnior (PSD). The movement was created in recent days, after the former judge’s pre-candidacy caused an internal crisis and accelerated the loss of personnel in the state.
Officially, Ciro’s agenda only includes a meeting with the federation’s pre-candidates. Allies, however, say that he will take advantage of this visit to formalize his support for the governor. The agreement includes the appointment of the vice president on the list, which must be led by Guto Silva (PSD), Secretary of Cities and the name chosen by the government group. The strategy is to reorganize the federation and rebuild alliances before the new leaders leave the acronyms.
The backdrop to this decision is the departure of around sixty mayors, who left the Union-PP in recent months. Two federal deputies also left the federation: Filipe Francischini, formerly of the Union, and Pedro Lupion, who left the PP for the Republicans. The internal assessment is that the drain is directly linked to Moro’s entry into the conflict.
Although he is leading the polls, Moro faces resistance from Ratinho Júnior, who does not want to share the role of leader in the succession with an old enemy. The political conflict between the two made the senator’s candidacy virtually unfeasible. Moro still tried to break the impasse by seeking membership in the Republicans, but negotiations did not progress due to the party’s alignment with the Iguaçu Palace.
Faced with the impasse, the federation decided to stop the bleeding and reorganize the government camp. The interpretation is that keeping Moro as a candidate would increase the isolation of the acronyms and harm the functioning of the proportional lists in 2026.
But around Moro, the movement is still not considered a fait accompli. Allies say they are not aware of any formal decision to withdraw his pre-candidate and say the senator was not informed of the changes.
Ciro Nogueira and Sergio Moro were contacted by GLOBO, but had no comment.
