Two men were arrested this Sunday (7), in São Sebastião, on the north coast of São Paulo, suspected of having robbed a family of tourists on Saturday afternoon (6), on Baleia beach. The suspects were arrested during an operation by civil, military and municipal police.
Security camera images show the attack on a man and a woman, accompanied by a child. The family was surrounded by four armed men, who were on two motorbikes, as they left the beach. The tourist was carrying a surfboard.
After the right, the man was searched, while the woman and child remained apart, crouching and holding each other. The thieves took a watch, two chains, two bracelets and two rings from the victim.
According to the São Sebastião town hall, the men were recognized thanks to the surveillance of Smart São Seba, the local system of cameras, alerts and facial recognition. The system identified the suspects’ movements and ordered police teams to capture them.
Investigation indicates the two men were part of a gang that used rented property in the city. The group had just committed another robbery, this time against a tourist at the exit of Juquehy beach.
The suspects were arrested while trying to leave the house where they were staying. Police seized a firearm, motorcycles and stolen items.
“Since the first theft, we began an uninterrupted operation. We were able to identify the movement of the suspects and act quickly. Cooperation between the municipal police, the Prime Minister and Civile was essential to locate and arrest two of the people involved,” said municipal police commander André Maciel.
The two arrested men live in Guarujá. Two other suspected members of the gang fled on Saturday evening and are being sought.
