Although Andalusia does not face a general problem of depopulation and continues to grow, thanks to net migration since the decline Although the birth rate is widespread, this growth has slowed down. Experts predict that the population will remain stable until 2040, otherwise … If measures are taken, it will lose 800,000 inhabitants by 2070.
This is why the Council of Andalusia, and more specifically the Ministry of Justice, Local Administration and Public Service, has launched the “Strategy against the demographic challenge” which studies the situation of the community and how it will face the years to come.
In this challenge there are many conclusions, among which more than 50% of Andalusians live in thirty cities while half of the 785 municipalities are losing population. Areas like the Costa del Sol or the Guadalquivir Valley They are overcrowded, which forces administrations to serve a constantly increasing population, in addition to the floating one.
On the other hand, 80% of Andalusian territory is rural and is slowly but constantly emptying. Thus, in the Strategy, 480 municipalities were detected which require preferential attention to put an end to this loss of inhabitants.
These municipalities were classified into three action levels: 78 high priority, 221 medium priority and 181 low priority. This means that inside emptied Spain, there is also an emptied Andalusia which, too, suffers from the consequences of depopulation and the exodus to big cities that is happening nationally.
Making this offer and opportunities known, as well as examples of stories of people who have changed large Spanish and European cities for rural Andalusia, is the objective of the campaign “The city of your life” and the web portal Vivemasandalucía.es, available for several months and presented by the Minister of Justice, Local Administration and Civil Service, José Antonio Nieto, in Almería, an example of demographic duality with saturated coastal areas and a population loss in interior regions.
The Strategy against the demographic challenge had a group of experts from municipal and provincial councils, as well as a committee made up of representatives from all ministries. This is a planning of transversal measures, with precise objectives. The goal is to reach 10 million inhabitants in 2050 and that population growth supports economic growth that allows Andalusia to reach the average GDP per capita of Spanish communities.
